New ideas need space.
Established 2016, Lohmann’s Bonding Arena® in the TEC-Center Neuwied offers more than enough of it on 300m². The unique application laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and works as a flexible workplace for all market-relevant functions: From application engineering, business development to product management and is also used as a training center for employees and visitors.
But above all, the Bonding Arena® is a place where we can come together with our customers.
No matter which bonding challenge you bring along: In the Bonding Arena® we can find out immediately which solution might suit your demand. Hereby, not only Lohmann’s entire value chain can be experienced but the Bonding Engineers’ “Smart Bonding Approach” as well: At various so-called “workstations” – e.g. “smarttester”, printing simulator or 3D microscope – bonding requirements can be tested and optimized until a customized result can be implemented into the customer process.
Because:
This is our service package. And, by the way: The customer learns about our value chain, to understand and trust adhesive bonding."
Peter Harendt
Head of Technical Marketing
With the laminator, the Bonding Engineers flexibly create prototypes for sampling: two materials can be laminated together on a roll with a total thickness of up to 10 mm – this also works for heat-activated adhesive tapes. Learn more from our Application Engineer Gerd Rottmann!
What can a prototyping at Lohmann look like? In the current application case you can find out everything worth knowing about our laminator – and what advantages it offers for applications in various industries.
The Bonding Engineers use a pneumatic press to produce prototypes and test specimens of laminar bondings for customers. Substrates of all kinds can be bonded here at up to 250°C and a contact pressure of up to 8 bar – Application Engineers Stephan Klein explains more in the video!
Prior to the actual bonding process, a surface conditioning of the substrate to be bonded can be useful – for example, in regards to its surface tension. With our infrared radiator, we can heat various materials up to a size of DIN A3 before they can be bonded in the laminator or a press. Learn more from Werner Barth, Application Engineer.
Our reactive adhesive solutions, especially from the SBF (Structural Bonding Films) range, develop their full adhesive strength at temperatures around 100°C. We can achieve this easily and quickly at another station of our Bonding Arena®: i.e. our induction generator. Wolfgang Schäfer, Application Engineer, will introduce it to you via video.
When the Bonding Engineers get involved in the individual bonding challenges of their customers, they think along with the process – true to their "Smart Bonding Approach". This also includes the optimal pre-treatment of substrates and adhesives, for example by thermal input. Find out in our application case about the advantages the two heat stations of the Bondig Arena® can offer for your applications.
Welcome to our FlexoLAB, a special area within the Bonding Arena®, dedicated exclusively to the flexo printing industry. To provide the best possible printing results for our customers, we expose our plate mounting tapes to mechanical stresses in our printing simulator – in a climatic chamber. Additionally we go to the plate mounter: Here, the correct mounting of adhesive tapes and printing plates onto the sleeve is tested, optimized and showcased.
Timo Elzer, Application Engineer, will introduce you to both stations.
Our Bonding Arena® is equipped with a testing area for the simulation of loads. Customer specific, application-oriented, smart: Here, we subject our bonds to various loads by means of the Smarttester – for example we do sealing tests or dynamic impulse capacity tests. Peter Harendt will demonstrate some common test for you.
We want to be sure: With the 3D microscope in our Bonding Arena® we are able to magnify and measure various materials – and thus e.g. analyze how much adhesive we need to ensure an optimal wetting of the customer substrate. Peter Harendt will introduce you to the third station in our video series.
This time, our application case is “aiming high”. In order to develop a universal solution for our customers, suitable for bonding the roof’s interior and exterior, we take a close look at the industry’s standard construction foils and membranes. Which demands does our tape have to fulfil? Find out more:
Some materials are more difficult to bond than others. Therefore, we reserved a special place in our Bonding Arena® especially for surface pretreatments. In this video, Bonding Engineer Peter Wiedemann will demonstrate the possibilities we can provide you with.
Not all surfaces are easy to combine with every bonding solution. Especially plastics and multilayer applications can be challenge that a corona pre-treatment might solve. Our application case revolves around a smart dishwasher that we were able to complement by an equally smart bonding solution. This way to the download:
Welcome to our workstation! Here, we hold a broad range of our standard products ready for you – to be prepared for you special bonding demand. Together we make an initial selection for your substrate surface to be bonded – or we develop a customized solution for you. Curious? Meet Simone Wierschem, Application Engineering, at the workstation and learn more about our operations. Enjoy the video!
What is the starting point on the way to the perfect bonding solution? Please download our first exciting application case and find out how we developed a high-performance die-cut for a concrete application in the automotive industry – even adhering to complex new paints.
