The Circular Economy Forum, held on May 22 in Cologne under the patronage of Mona Neubaur, the Minister for Economic Affairs, Small Business, Energy, and Climate Protection of North Rhine-Westphalia, brought together industry leaders, experts, and local partners to explore ways to minimize resource consumption, waste, emissions, and energy wastage. The event featured a wide range of activities, including specialist sessions, excursions, panel discussions, and a keynote speech by renowned ARD weather presenter, Thomas Ranft.

The "Going Circular" award ceremony, a highlight of the forum, recognized companies that have made significant strides in adopting innovative approaches to the circular economy. Lohmann's LinerLoop concept, a pioneering recycling system for paper liners in the adhesive tape industry, was honored as a notable contribution to sustainable practices.

LinerLoop, developed in collaboration with UPM Specialty Papers and Cycle4Green, represents a significant advancement in recycling opportunities within the industry. This groundbreaking initiative enables the collection and reprocessing of white, siliconized paper liners by selected recycling companies, effectively transforming a waste product into a valuable resource. Lohmann's LinerLoop project sets a new standard for the industry, emphasizing the company's commitment to promoting sustainability.

Evert Smit, Director of Scouting at Lohmann, state: "We recognized the importance of recycling liner materials in our sustainability plan and wanted to lead the way in our industry. We hope that our efforts will inspire others in the tape industry to join us in our journey towards a more sustainable future."

The "Circularity Scouts" program, another highlight of the forum, bestowed awards upon trainees in the Cologne area who demonstrated exceptional awareness of the circular economy and resource efficiency. These talented individuals presented impressive projects aimed at reducing energy consumption, waste, resource costs, and CO2 emissions within their respective companies.

As an industry leader, Lohmann continues to prioritize sustainable practices and innovation, ensuring its products and operations contribute to a more circular and environmentally conscious economy. To learn more about Lohmann's LinerLoop concept, please click here.
