Can electrical engineering and adhesive tape go together? Absolutely!

Christian Weisenstein demonstrates how technological diversity at Lohmann paves the way for new innovations. As an electrical engineer, he now develops functional adhesive solutions that go far beyond simply sticking things together: they measure, control, connect – and bring innovation straight into real-world applications.

Turning Curiosity into Innovation

Christian’s journey at Lohmann began in Business Development. “I asked myself: what can an electrical engineer contribute to a tape company?” As it turns out – quite a lot.
Today, Christian is a Senior Engineer at the Health Patch Technology Center in Neuwied – a hub where technology is developed for direct application on the skin. Working closely with interdisciplinary teams, he creates prototypes and demonstrators that combine electronics and adhesive technologies in compact, functional systems.

“I’m responsible for the design, test plans, and evaluation methods for functional products and prototypes. I also advise clients on development projects – especially when it comes to turning new, innovative ideas into reality,” he explains.
What excites him most? The combination of creativity and technical depth. “It’s a rare mix – but here at Lohmann, it’s part of everyday life.”

Ideas that Stick – and Inspire

One thing Christian values highly is the freedom to explore new ideas. “We go beyond conventional product boundaries. Today’s adhesive tapes can measure, and even interact with digital devices – opening the door to entirely new applications.”
By working with industry partners, startups, and universities, Lohmann creates solutions that are tested in real-world settings. “That brings speed – and responsibility. It’s not just about what you know, but what you do with it.”

Close collaboration with academic institutions, startups, and local students is a key part of this innovation culture. Lohmann actively supports research through hands-on projects, thesis work, collaborations, and tech transfer initiatives.
