From Curiosity to Career

At Lohmann, talent grows – sometimes sooner than expected. Fabian Durben, now a team leader in the Coating Department, discovered his passion for chemistry and technology while still in school during an internship in the R&D lab.

What’s kept him "stuck" to Lohmann ever since? The perfect mix of team spirit, innovation, and genuine appreciation.

A Start Fueled by Enthusiasm

Fabian’s first encounter with Lohmann came during a holiday internship – and it was a direct hit:
"I immediately sensed a special spirit here: openness, curiosity, helpfulness. I was encouraged to experiment and contribute my own ideas – that truly inspired me."
Instead of heading to university, Fabian chose hands-on experience and began an apprenticeship as a chemical lab technician at Lohmann. He was especially impressed by the company’s training culture (more information here) and the collaboration with Lohmann Therapy Systems (LTS) and Lohmann & Rauscher (L&R): "You can really feel how much the company invests in the development of young people – both professionally and personally."

The Path to Leadership

During his apprenticeship, Fabian explored various departments – from research and development, to analytics, and finally production.
Today, he is team leader at our largest coating line at Lohmann’s headquarters in Neuwied, overseeing operations at the Coating Line. Quality, precision, and strong team dynamics are his top priorities:
"I especially enjoy it when everything runs smoothly, production is at its best, and the team works together seamlessly."

The leap from chemical lab technician to a leadership role in production was a bold move – and one that took courage:
"I definitely had some reservations about leading a team without prior management experience. But my colleagues welcomed me warmly, and I got off to a great start."
What drives him most is the opportunity to continuously develop the coating process together with his team:
"When everyone contributes and pulls in the same direction, it really motivates me to give my best as well."

Sustainability and Cutting-Edge Technology:
Stepping into the Future

Fabian and his team at “Coating Line 16” are actively contributing to sustainable production. They implement innovative adhesive technologies, including CO₂-neutral adhesives and bio-based materials. In addition, they continuously work on reducing waste, material usage, and energy consumption – an important contribution to resource conservation and improved efficiency. For Fabian, working with modern technology means constant learning and developing practical solutions to optimize the production process. He takes pride in seeing how every improvement not only increases efficiency but also drives sustainability forward.

What Makes Working at Lohmann Special

For Fabian, it's the flat hierarchies and the chance to be directly involved in decision-making.
"It’s important to communicate at eye level and achieve the best results together. Everyone in the team contributes, and that’s what makes the work truly exciting," Fabian says.

Even after several years, Fabian sees his future clearly at Lohmann. His goal: to keep learning, push new topics forward – and maybe one day inspire young talents to begin their own journey.
